    Server Mergers - Discussion Thread

    AUGUST 2020 ANNOUNCEMENT

    Today we would also like to talk about MERGING SERVERS. Just like you we definitely want to make server mergers possible. The problem is that it is not easy. We've asked one of our coders to give an insight into the current situation.

    1) There will be conflicts with account and guild name duplicates.

    2) All players must get new internal IDs and all data (messages, fight logs, guilds etc.) have to be adjusted accordingly. Because of the complexity of our custom data management, changing the internal records will be a lot of work and prone to failure.

    3) Tracking and payment is based on a unique combination of player ID and server ID. These IDs would no longer be valid when merging servers and past transactions would be difficult to track.

    If these problems are too difficult to fix or not safe enough, we will test if moving individual accounts to other servers is possible.

    Some days ago we discussed possible mergers in Discord and asked you to share your opinions, ideas and suggestions. Thank you for your constructive and helpful feedback! We will take everything into consideration when finding a solution to the problem of merging servers!

    MAY 2021 UPDATE

    Technically, server mergers are only possible with the new server backend we have been working on for about 10 months now (May 14)! We still need a minimum of 6 more months so the new backend will be finished by the end of the year (hopefully)...then we can focus on server mergers beginning with January 2022 (approximately)...but we will already start working on mergers later this (2021) year...those tasks we can look into without the new server backend being finished.

    In short, we are working on the server backend and mergers, but don't expect it too early. Mergers are not possible with the current server backend.

    1) There will be conflicts with account and guild name duplicates.
    Change The Unique Identifier it PlayerID.ServerID and GuildID.ServerID

    You could concatenate the PlayerID and the ServerID as well as the GuildID and the ServerID

    For instance, I would be Strider.s10us and my guild would be ReUnitedKingdom.s10us

    Use the Unique Identifier above and have a handful of Beta Testers volunteer in a new "Server Merge Beta Server" to DUP (Duplicate) their account into the new server with the new Unique Identifier.

    As the merges get easier, collect more volunteer beta testers to DUP into the new Beta Server.

    Of course the original account would stay and be primary since its only testing.

    3) Tracking and payment is based on a unique combination of player ID and server ID. These IDs would no longer be valid when merging servers and past transactions would be difficult to track.
    Use the Unique Identifier as a way to track past transactions easily, have the Server Merge Beta Testers make monitored purchases, and reimburse those purchased by placing them into the primary account.

      For tracking purpuses:
      Figure out all the places you use the unique id, and combine unique id with unique (original) server id.

      If multiple figures have same name:
      Oldest account get the name. Younger account(s) get a random name, and free option to change name.

      If done right, this could allow people to emigrate to a server of choice. Well - it should probably be within a reasonable range - i.e. a server that is older than the profile etc.

            Hi Leander,

            Assuming the back end will be successful for merging servers, has there been any thought give to which server qualify for merging?

            In my case, I'm on s10.us, the last of the US servers which was created on November 29, 2013.

            Would Playa simply merge all US Servers since they are of a certain age? or would Playa look at all servers that fall within the similar Timezones (Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, etc).

              I don't have any details yet. Of course servers should have the same age as otherwise it would be unfair. I've edited the first post and added the text posted on Discord some time ago.
