Default Big plans for the future: discussion thread

A Letter to the Community:

Hello adventurer!

In the past, we haven’t been very public with information regarding planned updates. However, it was thanks to your feedback from the survey we held in spring 2014 that led to the amazing Demon Portal update. So now we want to involve you more directly in the development of future features. We're going to be up front here: This time, we’re talking about nothing less than the biggest "Shakes & Fidget – The Game" update EVER!

Many of you already know that Shakes & Fidget celebrated its 5th anniversary not so long ago, and we're very happy to see that it remains by far the most popular game of its type.To date, Shakes & Fidget has been published in more than 20 languages, and a staggering number of 40 million accounts have been created! In order to continue providing you with a great gameplay experience for (at least!) another five years, we have decided to completely revamp the technical and artistic aspects of the game. And we would love your help with it!

Since Shakes & Fidget went live, we’ve already made huge steps in its development, like adding dungeons, guilds, guild battles, guild raids, guild coats of arms, the Scrapbook, the Gambler, the Tube, the Witch, the Tower, companions, weekend events, the Demon Portal, the Magic Mirror and the Arcane Toilet to name the biggest ones (you can find a full list here None of these existed when the game came out!

Unfortunately, there have also been times when the period between updates was too long, or where we couldn't fulfill the high expectations. One of the main reasons for this was that we had to limit what was technically possible in Shakes & Fidget before the game was even online. And this is exactly what we want to remedy with the reprogramming. This will clear the way for us to create extensive content updates in the future! Of course, reprogramming on this scale takes time, but we started right after the Demon Portal update, and we hope to be finished sometime during the first quarter of 2015. Unfortunately, we can't be any more specific than that right now, but you’ll be the first to know as soon as we have more details!

As you read this, our whole team is working at full speed on the new version. The goal is to keep the cartoon charm, while freshening it up and modernizing it. In addition to the technology, we’re also reworking a huge portion of the graphics, but we want you to love them too, so here's a first and exclusive preview of what the game may look like after the update:

New graphics:

Which do you like best? Old or new?

Over the next weeks, we’ll be posting more of our plans for the update here on the forum, as well as on Facebook and Twitter: @SFgameOfficial

But before we announce all the details, we want your opinions on the update. Do you even want it? Are you looking forward to it? What do you think is particularly important? We're looking forward to your feedback to help us make Shakes & Fidget even better than ever!

Definitely yes for the new update. We want it all, cant go wrong here.
As for me important thing is new dungeons, guild upgrades (not for mushrooms) and some kind of dumping honor system in HOF.(exchange honor for something or possibility to buy certain gear for honor points)
Atm 50000+ honor points dosent bring you anything except your name in firsts rows of charts.
All the best and keep the good updates coming.

I prefer current graphic. It look like they tried to upgrade graphic to match new S&F comics but went to far. Especially sky, use of realistic sky is worse possible thing.

If background graphic would be changed, all other like characters and monsters won`t fit. Effort, time and resources put in graphic change could be put to something else. Not to mention, that i like current graphic, its easy, simple ant I think its best for humorous things. When i look at new graphic, I feel its for something more serious, mystic fantasy, not the old simple laugh out loud game.

Thanks for your replied so far. Keep 'em coing.
Bqczek They won't only change a background or two. It will be a total conversion of the entire artwork so everything is in the same style.

I personally think a graphics update is a complete waste of time and effort. If I wanted better graphics I'd play a different game. I continue to play S&F because of the simple gameplay, with no thinking needed to progress within the game, just click, wait, click, wait, etc makes for an addictive game. I mean who even notices the graphics after the first few times of playing? It'd be like saying people read the quest descriptions every time they enter the tavern, NO they don't, once they have read them once, or at most a few times, they just click to see the rewards and choose which they want. As I said, the simplicity of the game is the attraction, no need for unnecessary graphics updates, spend the player's donations implementing new features instead?

I prefer the current look. Yeh the updated look may be technically better but I just prefer the style of the cartoony look that we currently have. As an aside depending on your art team if you are doing a total rework of the images a simpler style could help roll out future updates vs the extra time to do more realistic. Also one question how would folks with older phones playing over the app. handle the new images? Before I upgraded to my current phone my old thing couldnt install the graphics pack due to the rubbish usable internal memory on older HTCs.
